Dr Stephanie Eifert was a PhD student at the KRITIS Research Training Group at TU Darmstadt. Her doctoral thesis is about ‘’Critical‘ infrastructures and “nodes” in “networks” as the basis for a history of infrastructure in the pre-modern era – reflections on Frankfurt am Main and Mainz in the late Middle Ages’ (doi: 10.26083/tuprints-00027711)

In the winter terms 2017/18 and 2019/20, she also assisted the Department of Medieval Studies as a lecturer.
Abstract:
“In contrast to previous research opinion, ”critical“ infrastructures are not a phenomenon of modern times. Based on an intensive examination of the term ”infrastructure", this study uses fluvial transport and traffic facilities to show how these were characterised by aspects such as general accessibility, safety and attractiveness for users. Furthermore, the analysis attempts to show how the systemic character of paths, networks and the infrastructures embedded in them was already significant at the end of the Middle Ages.
Huge congrats on the publication of your dissertation: Well done, Stephie!!!
