Lichtenberg II-Hochleistungsrechner: Expanding the Horizon of the Humanities through supercomputing

At the next Digital Lunch, Dario Kampkaspar, Center for Digital Editions, TU Darmstadt will introduce the use of the Supercomputer Lichtenberg II in the field of the humanities.

In July 2023 TU Darmstadt officially confirmed the implementation of the supercomputer, named in honor of the intellectual Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742-1799). “Lichtenberg II” is designed to perform computational tasks that cannot be executed on conventional computers.

High-performance computing can be used not only in Computer science. The field of the Humanities presents several challenges suitable for supercomputing, including the recognition and analysis of massive-scale historical texts, 3D modelling of spaces, high-resolution image analysis, and additional undertakings.

During the lightning talk, Dario Kampkaspar will present a brief overview of the existing initiatives of the Center for Digital Editions, explaining how they enhance research and publication activities. He will also highlight recent developments and provide a glimpse into upcoming plans and collaboration.

Our upcoming event will be held in person! If you would like to join us, please follow the registration instructions on Eventbrite. The specific room at TU Darmstadt will be announced soon, so stay tuned for further updates.
